From the Pastor’s Pen–
“These that have turned the
world upside down are come
hither also” (Acts 17:6b, KJV)
This verse records the words of
the unbelieving Jews in
Thessalonica, after hearing
Paul and Silas preach the
gospel. It has always been the
policy of the blind lost to
stigmatize those who proclaim
the truth as bigots, intolerant,
ignorant, and dangerous to
society. To prove this point, I
direct you to listen to those who
oppose the values that God’s
Word teaches us. Listen to the
Hollywood elites, the majority
of the news media people, and
the so called “comedians” of the
day, and you will find a
complete disrespect and hatred
for all that is taught in the
Bible. The Bible declares that
they are wrong, but in their
blind state, they condemn
Christian people as “turning
the world upside down”.
Everything that we hold as
true, they declare to be false.
Everything that we hold to be
false, they proclaim as true.
Black is white, white is black,
up is down, down is up, etc., etc.,
etc.
From their point of view,
Christianity does turn the world
upside down. That is because
they are already upside down.
The Bible says that unbelievers
are “condemned already” (John
3:18). When God saves people,
He changes them. This to the
lost person looks upside down,
because the new creature in
Christ is a direct opposite of
what he/she once was. In
reality, the lost person is the
one standing on his head, it is
the Christian that stands
upright and just before God.
The culture of our country and
our world continues to move
away from God. Bible prophecy
points toward the events that
we see happening today. What
are we as Christians to do?
Listen to God’s Word in
Ephesians 6:
I. Put On The Whole Armor of
God (v.11) We can not stand
unless we have the whole armor
of God on. We must have the
complete protection that God
provides for us. If we go out half-
equipped, it’s our own fault.
II. Take A Stand (v.10-12) Satan
is the adversary. We are to
remain strong in the Lord, and
in the power of His might. The
correct position for a Christian
today is to stand. You can't be
very effective unless you are
equipped and standing. Soldiers
do not win wars sitting on the
sidelines.
III. Use The Weapons. (v. 17-18)
All of the Armor listed in verses
13-17a is designed for defense.
We often forget that God has
also provided us with two
offensive weapons. The first is
the Bible, the sword of the Spirit.
No one ever prospered under
watered down preaching. We
must take the whole counsel of
the Word of God, and share the
gospel with the lost. Second, we
must unleash the power of
prayer. Prayer is the Atom Bomb
that is seldom used and often
abused. Everything that we do
should be for the glory of God,
that He will answer our prayers
to save lost people not for our
egos, but that He would receive
Glory and Praise!
Remember that Peter wrote that
we should not think it strange
when we are persecuted (1 Peter
4:12). Let us labor until we see
Him coming in the clouds of
Glory, and then we will be
gathered home.
